5 Coolest Advertising Campaigns of the 2000s
You probably heard about them, but most likely you did not think about the impact they had on the world. They have hundreds of millions of views on YouTube, they carry revolutionary messages and tell stories that will never get boring. Subtle meaning and powerful ideas – here are five campaigns from world-famous brands that have changed the world for the better.
Red Bull Stratos
One of the most spectacular advertising campaigns to date was launched by the manufacturer of the popular energy drink called Red Bull. The company organized a large-scale marketing stunt, which was called the "mission to the edge of space." As part of the Red Bull Stratos project, the Austrian base jumper and skydiver Felix Baumgartner made a jump from the stratosphere. As a result, he broke five world records and became the first person to overcome the sound barrier without the help of engines. The maximum flight speed reached 1.35 thousand km/h, while the spacesuit and extremal stratospheric balloon adorned the Red Bull logo. Thanks to the action, the brand appeared in all world media.
In a rapidly changing society, it’s not enough to create just a good advertising campaign. It must be thoughtful and motivating or witty and original. Advertising always follows these trends. It defies the common phrases “you fight like a girl”, “you run like a girl” - which they often use to insult boys - and turns them into a compliment. #LikeaGirl shows different girls and their self-confidence. Not surprisingly, since its launch, this campaign aimed at empowering women has attracted over 66 million views on YouTube. If you want to organize an ad campaign like that, you must contact a quality video advertising production company.
Dove’s “Real Beauty”
Dove's “Real Beauty” is a massive marketing campaign, but we will only discuss its advertising side. We have already mentioned that the best advertising campaigns either motivate us or make us laugh, and “Real Beauty” definitely refers to motivators. It extols the imperfections of the female body and encourages women from all over the world to think of themselves differently - better than they are used to. It was originally released on TV and in print but eventually became viral on YouTube. In 2013, the Dove campaign video “Real Beauty” scored the most views in the history of advertising.
Old Spice’s “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like”
If you don’t remember this cool advertising campaign, you probably were born just recently or lived on a desert island. Since 2009, this legendary campaign popped up just about everywhere. It is clearly targeted at women and it is witty enough to make everyone smile. Ingenious marketers have guessed that a deodorant for a man is likely to be bought by a woman during a trip to the store. Who would have thought that direct targeting of real consumers with the use of humor would work so well? And the video from which the advertising campaign began collected more than 56 million views on the official Old Spice YouTube channel. And it lasts only 30 seconds.
On April 28, 2017, rapper Logic presented the video for the song '1-800-273-8255'. The numbers in the name are the suicide prevention hotline. In the video, a young man is laughed at because of non-traditional sexual orientation, and he considers suicide. Having abandoned the idea of shooting himself, he decides to call 1-800-273-8255 and receives help. A few years later, he marries a childhood friend, they have a baby together. The purpose of the advertising campaign is to help people cope with suicidal thoughts and seek help in time.
